EHOD - Behind-the-scenes Tours of PRONI

Event type: Type

A woman with brown hair speaking to a group of people in the PRONI foyer

This year, we are once again opening our doors for European Heritage Open Day to bring members of the public on behind-the-scenes tours of our archive. Visitors will have the opportunity to speak with experienced PRONI staff members about their own research and learn how best to care for their own records.

First, the group will be guided through the public Search Room and Reading Room to discover how our visitors begin their research into family and local history.

After this, the group will visit one of our purpose-built archival stores that hold over 3 million records relating to the history of Northern Ireland.

They will then be treated to a visit to the Conservation Lab, to observe how damaged documents are repaired and treated to ensure that they will be more stable in the future.

Finally, the group will visit the Reprographics Studio to discuss how documents are digitised and explore all things photography in the archive.

Tours will last for around 1 hour and will start at the following times:

  • 10.30am

  • 11.30am

  • 12.30pm

  • 2.00pm

  • 3.00pm
