PRONI is a contributor to the Department for Communities’ (DfC) USANI:250 programme, an initiative marking the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence and commemorating the connections between Ulster and the United States. This programme recognises Northern Ireland’s significant cultural and historical links to America, formally recognised by the America250 Commission by granting Northern Ireland special status in the semiquincentennial celebrations.
The USANI:250 programme of events includes concerts, exhibitions, cultural showcases and theatre productions. You can learn more about the overall programme and upcoming events on the DfC website.
PRONI and USANI:250
PRONI is one of many key partner organisations in the USA-NI250 Cultural Working Group contributing to the development of the commemorative programme. In particular, PRONI is contributing archival records to exhibitions and events and supporting public interpretation of Ulster-American connections.
As part of the commemorations, PRONI has produced the publication Ulster American Treasures – The Migration Story which collates records from the archives that relate to Ulster’s influence on American settlement and cultural development. The book was launched in Washington D.C. on St. Patrick’s Day and will have a Northern Ireland launch later this year.
