As part of the commemorations marking 250 years since the Declaration of Independence, PRONI has produced this source publication to highlight archival material that reflects Ulster’s long‑standing connections with the United States.

The documents in this volume offer a window into centuries of and captures the experiences of those who crossed the Atlantic in search of new opportunities, as well as those they left behind. The featured sources are primarily drawn from letters but also include journals, maps and government files, which illustrate the varied and often challenging realities of those journeys. The records highlight diverse voices and personal stories that contribute to a wider understanding of Ulster’s historic links with America.
