The Virtual Record Treasury of Ireland (VRTI) is a landmark all-island and international research partnership, hosted by Trinity College Dublin, dedicated to digitally reconstructing the Public Record Office of Ireland-a vast archive tragically destroyed in 1922 at the outbreak of the Irish Civil War. This ever-growing resource is open freely and permanently to anyone who is interested in exploring Ireland’s deep history by drawing together surviving documents, copies, transcripts and parallel collections from across the world. The Treasury is restoring vital parts of Ireland’s archival heritage.

PRONI has played a key role in this by contributing thousands of digital images from census records, estate papers, maps, letters, genealogical papers and church records towards this award-winning project.
