PRONI closure for move to Titanic Quarter, September 2010

PRONI's Balmoral Avenue site will be closed to all customers from 6 September 2010 for a period of up to eight months.  This is to facilitate our move to new purpose built accommodation at Titanic Quarter, Belfast.  Customers should consider this when planning research and visits.  Details regarding the move to Titanic Quarter and changes to PRONI services can be found on the PRONI website.  Progress reports on the move, as well as information on alternative sources for research, will also be posted on the PRONI website over the coming months.

Restricted late evening opening service

PRONI regrets that it has been necessary to restrict the late evening opening service available to our customers.  Last orders for documents produced in the Reading Room will be 6.30pm (and not 8.15pm as previously).  Any orders placed before 6.30pm will be fulfilled and customers can remain in the Reading Room to consult the records up to 8.45pm.
The Self–Service Microfilm Room will remain open.  Customers can access:
  • Church records
  • 1901 Census
  • Index to the civil registers of births
  • Place name and personal names index to the Registry of Deeds
  • Tithe Applotment books
  • Abstracts of the 1858-1900 wills
  • Plus other popular sources available on microfilm or microfiche.
The Search Room will also remain open as normal.  Customers can continue to use:
  • the catalogues, guides and indexes
  • computerised wills database
  • Irish Emigration Database of the Centre for Migration Studies
  • Findmypast and Irish Origins websites subscribed to by PRONI
We will be reviewing the situation on a monthly basis and intend to resume the full evening service as soon as possible.
