By bus or rail

Bus

From Belfast City centre at Donegall Square East take Metro 8 or 9 route.  After alighting at either the Lisburn Road (Metro route 9) or Malone Road (Metro route 8) end of Balmoral Avenue it is only a short walk to PRONI.  If you are getting off at the Lisburn Road end of Balmoral Avenue, bear in mind that this route is slightly uphill.  PRONI is located about half way along Balmoral Avenue.

Rail

Balmoral Halt is on the Lisburn Road and from there it is only a short walk to PRONI, but it is slightly uphill.  PRONI is located on the left hand side about half way up Balmoral Avenue.  If you are travelling to PRONI from Dublin, the Enterprise train service has a regular schedule (2 hour travel time) that gets you into Belfast’s Central Station, where you should connect to the train for Lisburn and alight at Balmoral Halt.

By car

PRONI is three miles south-west of Belfast City centre via either the Lisburn Road or the Malone Road.  Turn into Balmoral Avenue.
If approaching by the M1 Motorway from the west, leave the motorway at Exit 2, A55, direction Balmoral/King's Hall (signposted Belfast South and Balmoral). Take the second exit into Stockman’s Lane and at the third  set of traffic lights go straight across the Lisburn Road and you are then into Balmoral Avenue.  PRONI is located on the left hand side about half way up Balmoral Avenue.
If approaching by the M1 motorway from the east, leave the motorway at Exit 2 (signposted A55 Outer Ring, Balmoral and King’s Hall ). At the roundabout take the first exit into Stockman’s Lane.  At the third set of traffic lights go straight across the Lisburn Road and you are then into Balmoral Avenue.  PRONI is located on the left hand side about half way up Balmoral Avenue.
  • Parking

    There is limited car-parking within the PRONI site.  Carpark spaces are allocated on a 'first come first served' basis.  Cars may be parked in the avenues off Balmoral Avenue but please respect the needs of residents to get in and out or their driveways.  It is not recommended that you park in Balmoral Avenue as it is a major through route to and from the motorways.  Visitors should note that cars cannot park in Balmoral Avenue before 9.30 am and after 4.30 pm.

    For those with a disability, there are two disabled car park spaces near the front entrance to PRONI.  You can contact PRONI in advance of your visit to reserve one of these spaces.

By air

Belfast has two local airports – Belfast International Airport, which services both national and international flights and George Best Belfast City airport, which caters mainly for domestic air traffic.
It is now possible to fly direct into Belfast from most major European cities and also from Newark Liberty International Airport, New York, USA and Toronto Pearson International Airport, Canada.
Belfast is easily accessible from Dublin International Airport and City of Derry Airport by car, bus or rail. You can also fly into Belfast from Cork or Dublin.

By sea

Ferry crossings operate from the UK mainland into Larne and Belfast ports in Northern Ireland and into Dublin, Dun Laoghaire and Rosslare ports in the Republic of Ireland.
Ferry crossings also operate from Cherbourg and Roscoff in France to Rosslare in County Wexford.
