PRONI event at the John Hewitt Bar, Belfast PRONI exhibtion of documents relating to China Talk in the PRONI lecture room
A new exhibition, replacing the earlier Constance and Eva display, is Bryson House and Other Charities (D/2086).
The exhibition was staged to mark the 90th anniversary of the Charitable Organisations Society (COS) - the forerunner and direct ancestor of what became known as Bryson House, the host for a number of charitable institutions. Bryson House is still a venue for charities today and is a well-known Belfast landmark.
Other displays in our exhibition hall include two specially built cases containing documents of outstanding interest. These are: a collection of letters from Charles I and Queen Henrietta Maria to, or on behalf of, Randall Mac Donnell, Marquis of Antrim, 1645-63 (D/4041); a letter from the Duke of Wellington to Lord Castlereagh (D/3030/4515), dated 21 April, 1815, and - our oldest document - a papal bull from Pope Honorius III, 12 June, 1219.
