Pupils visiting PRONI to carry out research

School bus Re-enactment for a school group in the PRONI lecture room Classroom lesson
Students and school pupils interested in undertaking research at PRONI into curriculum-based subjects should first of all contact ELO staff (details below) to find out what information we have that might be relevant to your research subject.
Over the years, staff here have built up an impressive body of knowledge about the archives and are more than happy to pass on this information. Regrettably, staff cannot undertake research for you, but we will ensure that you are given plenty of assistance while you are here.
To carry out research independently at PRONI, you must first register as a reader (please note, anyone under 14 years of age must be accompanied by an adult).
Alternatively, we often have visits from school groups.
Topics you may want to research include:
  • victorian times
  • local or family history
  • geography
  • citizenship
  • literature
  • personal development
  • mathematics and numeracy
  • the arts etc.
There are thousands of documents in PRONI that will provide you with unique information that will give depth and breadth to your finished piece of work. Not only that, but in the process you will acquire new skills and experience a whole new area of learning for life and work.

Contacting ELO Staff

Staff in the Education, Learning and Outreach (ELO) section PRONI are responsible for school groups who wish to visit PRONI. They also help other learners, including college and university students, enquiring about research.
If you wish to speak to a member of ELO staff, please contact PRONI and ask for/mark correspondence for the ELO section.
