PRONI at Titanic Quarter, Belfast - 2010

The Public Record Office of Northern Ireland (PRONI) is currently working on a project to relocate its business to new purpose built accomodation.  The new premises will be located at Titanic Boulevard, Titanic Quarter, Belfast.  The site is close to the Odyssey and adjacent to the Gateway building.

Why are we moving?

The current premises are out-dated and no longer fit for the purpose intended.  PRONI currently holds 54,000 linear metres of records and demand is increasing.  In addition, the number of visitors to PRONI remains consistently high.  We therefore need to re-locate to premises that will allow us to meet both future demands for storage and our vision to provide wider and easier public access to the archives.

When are we moving?

The new premises are to be opened to the public in late 2010.

How will this benefit PRONI’s visitors?

PRONI’s new premises will deliver:
  • an improved state of the art research facility able to provide better access to the records and an improved service to our customers;
  • improved and extended storage facilities designed to house Northern Irelands growing collection of unique and irreplaceable archives.

How will this affect PRONI’s visitors?

At some point in the project it may be necessary for PRONI to provide a limited service or close to the public.  Any change in our service will be advertised well in advance in the local press and posted on our homepage.
Before making arrangements to travel to PRONI it would be advisable to check our website first or contact PRONI directly.
